Fred’s House are an award winning band based in Cambridge. Mixing elements of Folk, Blues, Country, Classic Rock and West Coast with a definite vintage feel to their music, echoing the 70’s but creating a fresh new sound that is very much part of now. Their songs feature the vocals of real-life couple and song-writing duo Griff Jameson and Vikki Gavin, who voices blend to create a beautiful and powerful sound. Enriched with a third part harmony from bassist Gafyn Jameson (Griff’s brother), virtuosic lead guitar playing from Lachlan Golder, who is also one of the band’s song-writers, and completing the line-up is Paul Richards, aka ‘The Happiest Drummer’, a fantastic percussionist playing full drum kit or conga and cajon. Among their many influences are bands such as Fleetwood Mac, The Civil Wars, The Swell Season, The Eagles, Simon and Garfunkel, C.S.N.Y., and Fairport Convention.

As well as gaining a strong following and a reputaion for their outstanding live shows across the UK, Fred’s House recently scooped two awards at the Annual NMG Awards 2013 (Eastern Counties); ‘Best Folk/Roots Band’ and ‘Audience Choice Award’ as voted for by the public. Their fans or ‘Housemates’ claim their music is addictive and come to show after show. They released their much anticipated debut album Bonnie and Clyde to critical acclaim, including For Folk Sake’s ‘Track of the Day’ and ‘exceptional debut album’ from R2 Magazine, grabbing 4 and 5 star reviews across the board as well as emphatic press. Fred’s House have become a regular fixture on the UK festival scene including appearances at Cambridge Folk Festival, Secret Garden Party, Standon Calling, Acoustic Festival of Britain, Ely Folk Festival, LodeStar, Folk East and Bestival. The band have been main support for the likes of Eddi Reader, The Wonderstuff, The Kast of Kinks (with orginal Kinks drummer Mick Avory), Kyla La Grange, Lucy Rose, Treetop Flyers, Phil Beer (Show of Hands), World Party (Karl Wallenger), Ahab and many more. They have received national airplay on Tom Robinson’s show BBC 6Music, Frank Hennessy’s Celtic Heartbeat show on BBC Radio Wales as well as recently having live sessions on BBC Introducing, BBC Local Radio and many other local radio stations. They have also had their music featured on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks and as an Ident for BBC Radio to promote the Buskers Festival in June 2013.

It all started back in February 2010 when Griff and Vix, a London based couple and duo, were set to record a few of their songs with producer NoisyFred. Griff’s brother Gafyn had been playing with Cambridge band “The Wentways”, but they had just lost their front man due to artistic differences. They asked Gafyn if he would play bass for their recordings, to which he replied, ‘I’ll bring the whole band!’ So it was at Fred’s house where they spent the weekend in the studio and with brother’s Griff and Gafyn playing together once again and everything falling quickly into place, Griff and Vix inherited a whole rhythm section and lead guitarist Lachlan overnight. By 2011 Fred’s House was formed and they played their first gig together a week later in the Big Smoke. These recordings made up the band’s first E.P. demo – Fred’s House.

Since then the band have been performing as a quartet with bassist Gafyn taking on the rhythm section,  playing bass, kick drum and hi-hat with his feet as well as backing vocals. However, since July of 2013  Fred’s House have been enjoying a bigger and fuller sound as they welcome drummer and percussionist Paul Richards to the band. Paul has been a friend of the band since the beginning and they are delighted he will be recording tracks on their debut album and joining them for as many shows as possible! However the band will still be playing some acoustic shows at folk and acoustic clubs featuring Paul on the Cajon and Congas!

Fred’s House debut album Bonnie & Clyde was released 21st April 2014 which was been recorded and produced by Neil ‘Bugs’ Rogers at Half Ton Studios. The band recently won some free recording in a national competition for BandApp to record their track Face in the Water with producer Adam Daniel King which you can download for FREE by clicking here.
